Holocaust Museum – Extra Credit

You may visit the Houston Holocaust Museum and write about your experience for an extra credit grade. This grade will either add 10 points to your test grade or 5 point added to your overall average which ever helps the most.

You will need to visit the Holocaust Museum Houston on your own time and document your experience. You can visit the museum website here to plan your trip. The museum does not charge an entrance fee, so all you will be responsible for is transportation and the cost of your free time. Please prepare yourself for this experience since it will be a highly educational and emotionally taxing visit. The ultimate goal of the museum is to inform the public about the persecution of individuals so an event of this magnitude will never happen again.

When you visit the museum you will need to tour the entire facility. There are numerous exhibits as well as a theater where you can view firsthand accounts from Holocaust survivors. You will need to document your experience by writing a 350 word essay on 1.) What you found interesting and educational about your visit to the museum, 2.) What part had the biggest effect on you, and 3.) How can you promote awareness of the holocaust to your peers? You will also need to take a photograph of yourself on site to visually document your learning experience. Tweet or Instagram this picture and tag #WHSHistorian for an extra 2 points!

Identify the following terms:
Anti-Semitism, Concentration Camps, Ghettos, Kristallnacht, Nuremberg Laws, SS, Third Reich, Nuremberg Trial and Result of the Holocaust.

Your essay will need to be typed, edited, proofread, and printed and sure to include a digital picture in your document so you earn full credit for this extra credit opportunity. If you plan on journeying to the museum with your classmates, you will each need to document your own separate experience.
You also need to document the name of your docent (tour guide), and her/his signature on the bottom of this page, along with a parent or chaperon signature.

This assignment must be completed and submitted no later than
Tuesday, January 5th, 2016
